An assistant director of the National Database and Registration Authority was shot dead by unidentified gunmen near the authority’s office in Peshawar’s Hayatabad area on Friday morning, police said. The shooting occurred within the jurisdiction of Hayatabad police station.

The victim was identified as Fahad Khan, who police said was a nephew of MNA Noor Alam Khan. City police spokesperson Alam Khan said the official was shot in an area behind the Nadra office.

Police reached the site after receiving information about the incident and recovered eight spent .30-bore pistol casings. The body was moved to hospital for a post-mortem examination, according to the police spokesperson.
