Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited the Special Services Group headquarters in Tarbela on Thursday, where he reviewed the elite force’s specialised training, operational preparedness and mission-focused capabilities. The visit included briefings, an equipment display and a demonstration of special-operations skills.

The General Officer Commanding of the SSG received the field marshal upon his arrival, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations. Munir later laid a floral wreath at the Shuhada Monument and offered Fateha for SSG personnel who lost their lives while serving in defence of the country.

Military officials briefed him on the formation’s specialised training programmes and its preparations for complex operational assignments. The presentation focused on mission-oriented readiness and the measures used to maintain the force’s ability to respond under demanding conditions.

Munir also inspected a display of advanced specialised equipment used by the SSG. Personnel subsequently conducted a demonstration highlighting their combat proficiency, agility and precision in executing special operations, allowing the military leadership to assess both the equipment and the training standards maintained by the formation.

During his interaction with officers and soldiers, the field marshal praised their professionalism, morale and commitment to duty. He said continuous training, development of indigenous capabilities and an uncompromising emphasis on operational preparedness were necessary to maintain an advantage against changing security threats and emerging challenges.

The emphasis on locally developed capabilities reflects the military’s stated objective of strengthening operational capacity while reducing reliance on external systems where feasible. The visit also placed attention on the role of specialised forces in responding to security situations that require advanced training, rapid deployment and precise execution.

The SSG is trained to conduct specialised missions that differ from conventional military operations. Readiness for such assignments depends on sustained exercises, familiarity with modern equipment and the ability of personnel to operate effectively in difficult environments and under rapidly changing conditions.

The visit concluded with renewed emphasis on professional preparedness and maintaining high training standards across the formation. No new deployment, operation or organisational change was announced; the activities described by the military focused on reviewing existing capabilities, honouring fallen personnel and reinforcing readiness priorities.
