At least eight people were killed and 30 others injured after a passenger bus collided with a dumper truck near the Havelian Interchange on the Hazara Motorway early Friday, rescue officials said. The bus was travelling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi when the crash occurred.
Initial information from Rescue 1122 indicated that a tyre burst may have caused the driver to lose control before the collision. This remains the initial account of the incident; the report did not state that a final investigation finding had been issued.
Rescue 1122 Abbottabad sent seven ambulances and a rescue vehicle to the site. The response operation was led by District Emergency Officer Hafeezur Rehman, according to the rescue service’s statement.
Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before transferring the injured passengers to nearby hospitals. All 30 injured people were moved to Ayub Medical Complex for treatment, including five children and six women.
Officials said four of the injured passengers were in critical condition. Their treatment status may change as hospital assessments continue, and no further medical update was provided in the report.
The bodies of the eight people who died, reportedly residents of Gilgit, were shifted to different hospitals. One body was taken to Type-D Hospital in Havelian, four to Ayub Medical Complex and three to District Headquarters Hospital in Abbottabad.
The incident follows other recent serious road crashes involving passenger vehicles in Pakistan. A day earlier, a bus and truck collision near Pakpattan killed 11 people and injured 33, while a bus fell into a drain in Hafizabad district last week, killing five people and injuring 27.
The immediate focus remains medical care for the injured and clarification of the circumstances that led to the Havelian collision. Any conclusion about responsibility or the mechanical cause should await findings from the relevant authorities rather than relying solely on preliminary reports.
