Three children have died from injuries suffered when a gas-cylinder explosion caused the roof of a house to collapse near Pajjagi Road in Peshawar. A woman and another girl from the same family remained under treatment at Lady Reading Hospital following the incident.
The explosion occurred late on Wednesday night at a residence in the Mohallah Khan Khel area. Reports citing emergency and hospital officials said a suspected gas leak preceded the blast, although the findings of any formal investigation into its precise cause were not available.
The force of the explosion brought down the house’s roof and trapped five family members beneath the debris. The victims comprised a woman and four children, all of whom sustained critical injuries during the blast and structural collapse.
Rescue 1122 dispatched ambulances and a disaster-response team after receiving information about the emergency. Rescuers searched the damaged property, recovered all five people from under the rubble and transferred them to Lady Reading Hospital for urgent medical care.
Hospital officials subsequently confirmed that three of the injured children died while receiving treatment. The surviving woman and girl continued to receive medical attention, but verified reports did not provide additional information about their condition or disclose the victims’ identities and ages.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief over the deaths and conveyed condolences to the affected family. He also wished the injured a swift recovery and directed the relevant authorities to ensure that they received appropriate medical care.
The incident follows other fatal cylinder explosions reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Six members of one family died and two girls were injured when an explosion caused a two-storey house to collapse in Mardan’s Aram Colony in June 2025, while at least 12 people were injured in another cylinder blast near Khyber Teaching Hospital in February that year.
Authorities had not announced the results of an investigation or identified responsibility for the latest explosion at the time of reporting. Further official findings would be required to establish how the suspected leak developed, whether the cylinder or its fittings were defective and whether any safety violations contributed to the tragedy.
