Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar told the Senate that the government intends to present the 27th Constitutional Amendment only after consulting coalition partners, insisting the proposal will not be rushed.
According to Dar, the draft - shared with allies - envisions creating a Constitutional Court and revisiting aspects of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. It may also involve changes related to Article 243 on the armed forces' command and other structural adjustments.
Dar said the bill would be referred to relevant committees for detailed scrutiny, with both the Senate and National Assembly panels expected to review it separately. He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party and other partners would be taken into confidence before finalising the text.
Opposition figures, including members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, criticised reported elements of the draft as damaging to judicial independence and provincial autonomy. Government allies countered that consensus would be sought and that the measure aims to strengthen governance without undermining the 18th Amendment.
