Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has signalled that it would welcome support from Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in its political struggle against the federal government. The position was stated by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja while speaking to the media in Islamabad.
Raja said the party would not reject those who chose to support its struggle. He described the possibility in broad terms, saying some political actors might offer limited support while others could remain aligned for longer periods.
The PTI leader said the party did not view Fazlur Rehman as a “saviour” or “messiah” and was not placing expectations on any individual. However, he said PTI wanted its political movement to expand and would welcome support if it was offered.
The statement does not amount to a formal alliance, joint programme or announced agreement between the two parties. No timeline, negotiating team, common agenda or planned meeting was disclosed in the comments.
The remarks come amid continuing political uncertainty and renewed discussion about cooperation among opposition parties. Any closer coordination between PTI and JUI-F would depend on further consultations and publicly confirmed decisions by both sides.
Separately, PTI said that family members and lawyers seeking to meet jailed party founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail were not permitted to do so on Tuesday. A party lawyer said Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Salman Akram Raja and Abdullah Khan had reached the jail but were not allowed to meet him.
The reported denial followed a meeting between Imran Khan and his lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, a day earlier. The party has continued to raise concerns about access to its jailed founder through legal and political channels.
The next meaningful development will be whether JUI-F responds publicly to PTI’s position or whether the parties move towards formal talks. Until then, the confirmed position is that PTI has expressed openness to support, not that a political alliance has been finalised.
