Ishaq Dar touts regional connectivity, calls CPEC a catalyst for growth

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar underscored that regional connectivity is central to stability and economic expansion, calling for coordinated transport planning, streamlined cross-border facilitation and joint investments. Addressing the Regional Transport Ministers’ International Conference in Islamabad, he said Pakistan is prepared to strengthen regional value chains.

Dar highlighted Pakistan’s location linking South Asia with Central Asia, the Middle East and China, arguing it makes the country a natural hub for trade and transit. He described the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as a recognised catalyst for energy infrastructure, transport links and commerce across the wider region.

Citing ongoing initiatives, he said Pakistan’s network of motorways and highways connects key border crossings to the ports of Karachi and Gwadar. He pointed to the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan rail framework as a landmark that could unlock fresh trade routes and reaffirmed support for regional energy projects.

Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, speaking at the forum, urged practical steps to fortify transport linkages and ease trade, noting that efficient logistics are essential for competitiveness, resilience and sustainable growth.
