In an official statement, Punjab Home Department Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi said administrative and security arrangements have been put in place across the city. He added that departments have been put on alert to protect residents and visitors during the festivities.
Qazi said safety steps include installing protective rods on motorcycles to reduce the risk of injuries from kite strings. He emphasized that public cooperation is essential for implementing safety measures effectively.
The home secretary also expressed concern over reports of accidents, including falls from rooftops while flying kites or attempting to retrieve cut kites. He urged residents to secure rooftops properly and avoid dangerous actions such as climbing poles or trees.
Separately, Malala Yousafzai, speaking to Geo News, said Basant is a joyful occasion that brings people together and can serve as a reminder of collective progress.
