The city’s police chief said one bomber detonated explosives at the main gate while two others slipped inside the compound, armed with rifles and grenades. FC personnel engaged the intruders and shot them dead within the complex, preventing hostage-taking during an ongoing parade.
Lady Reading Hospital officials reported that the wounded—three FC personnel and six civilians—were out of danger. Authorities said the swift response helped avert greater loss of life.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack and praised the forces’ action, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi paid tribute to the martyrs. The incident comes amid an uptick in militant violence in KP and Balochistan over recent years.
