ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said Thursday that firing near the Chaman border was initiated from the Afghan side and was met with a measured response by its security forces, adding that a ceasefire remains in place.
In a statement, the Ministry of Information said the situation was controlled due to the "disciplined and professional" conduct of Pakistani personnel. Islamabad reiterated its preference for dialogue and urged Kabul to show seriousness in managing border issues.
The exchange came amid ongoing Pakistan-Afghanistan talks in Turkiye aimed at de-escalation following deadly clashes last month. Pakistan has repeatedly asked the Afghan authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks across the border.
