Iran’s foreign ministry said 120 nationals are being deported from the United States and will fly home within days under an arrangement between Washington and Tehran. Citing comments by consular affairs official Hossein Noushabadi to Tasnim news agency, the report said US immigration authorities plan to remove around 400 Iranians currently in the country, many for entering illegally. The New York Times was quoted as reporting that a chartered aircraft left Louisiana on Monday and was due to arrive in Tehran via a stop in Qatar. The US State Department did not immediately comment. The deportations were described as the most forceful push yet by the Trump administration to remove migrants, including to destinations with poor human-rights records. Earlier this year, the US deported several Iranian nationals—many of them Christians—to Central American countries.
