Power Division says Rs25.30 rate applies only to package users
“The Power Division says Nepra’s Rs25.30 per unit determination is a temporary revised marginal rate for industrial and agricultural users covered by the Incremental Consumption Package, not a general industrial tariff increase.”
Key points
- The Power Division says Nepra’s Rs25.30 per unit determination is a temporary revised marginal rate for industrial and agricultural users covered by the Incremental Consumption Package, not a general industrial tariff increase.
- It says the change is intended to prevent the package’s cost from being passed on to non-beneficiary consumers.
The Power Division has said that the Rs25.30 per unit rate recently approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority applies only to beneficiaries of the Incremental Consumption Package for industrial and agricultural consumers.
In a clarification, the division rejected the impression that the decision represented a general increase in the industrial electricity tariff. It said the approved figure is the revised marginal rate for consumption covered by the package.
The Incremental Consumption Package is intended for additional electricity use by eligible industrial and agricultural consumers. The division said the revised rate would take effect from November 2026 and described the change as temporary.
According to the clarification, the revision was linked to higher marginal generation costs during the prevailing US-Iran war. The division did not say that the revised rate would apply to industrial consumers outside the package.
Officials said the adjustment was designed to ensure that the cost of relief provided through the package would not be transferred to other electricity consumers. The division specifically said non-beneficiaries would not bear the cost of the package adjustment.
The clarification follows a regulatory determination that drew attention because of the size of the approved per-unit figure. The Power Division’s position is that the decision concerns a targeted package rate, while the broader industrial tariff remains separate from that arrangement.
