French Woman Rescued From Khyber Home After Alleged Confinement

Police in Khyber district recovered a French national woman on Monday after raiding a house where she was allegedly being kept against her will. The operation was confirmed by police officials in Peshawar, making the case a serious matter involving personal liberty, domestic abuse allegations and consular coordination.

According to officials, the woman had been living in the Bara area for several years after marrying a Pakistani citizen. Police said the raid was carried out after information suggested she was facing mistreatment and was not being allowed to leave the residence freely.

Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed said the woman was recovered from a house in Khyber district during the police action. He stated that she had allegedly been subjected to torture and maltreatment during her stay, while authorities were now treating the matter as a formal criminal case.

The official account said the French national had been in Bara since 2014 and had four children. After her recovery, she and the children were shifted to a women police station in Peshawar, where authorities are expected to provide security and complete legal and procedural requirements.

Police also said the woman had expressed her wish to return to France. In response, officials have initiated diplomatic communication and sent a letter to the French Embassy through Pakistan’s Foreign Office so that consular support and further arrangements can be coordinated.

The case has drawn attention because it involves a foreign citizen, cross-border family matters and allegations of confinement inside a private residence. Such cases require careful handling because investigators must balance criminal proceedings, child welfare, diplomatic procedures and the safety of the recovered woman.

Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered against the woman’s spouse. Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances of her stay, the claims of maltreatment, whether she was prevented from contacting outside help and how long the alleged restrictions had continued.

The recovery also highlights the role of women police stations and specialised handling in cases involving domestic violence, foreign nationals and vulnerable families. Once recovered, victims often require medical assessment, legal assistance, counselling, temporary shelter and protection from pressure or intimidation.
