Islamabad Airport Warns of Weekend Flight Delays

Flight operations at Islamabad International Airport may face delays over the weekend after the Pakistan Airports Authority issued a formal aviation notice warning airlines and pilots about possible disruption during specific time windows from May 8 to May 10.

According to the notice to airmen, flight arrivals and departures could be affected on Friday between 10:45am and 12:15pm. The advisory also covers Saturday and Sunday evening, when flights may face delays between 8pm and 9:15pm due to what the authority described as operational reasons.

The alert does not say that the airport will remain closed, but it signals that airlines may need to adjust movement plans, arrival sequencing and turnaround schedules. Passengers travelling through the capital during these hours may therefore experience revised departure times, longer waits at terminals or delayed landings.

The Pakistan Airports Authority advised incoming aircraft to carry enough holding fuel in case they are required to remain airborne longer than planned before landing. Such instructions are normally issued to ensure safe air traffic management when airport operations are expected to slow down temporarily.

For passengers, the warning is important because even short disruptions at a major airport can create a chain effect across domestic and international schedules. A delay in Islamabad can affect onward connections, baggage handling, passenger pickups and airline crew planning, particularly during busy evening travel hours.

Islamabad International Airport is one of Pakistan’s most important aviation gateways, serving the federal capital, northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and overseas travellers. Any operational adjustment at the airport is closely watched by airlines because it can influence routes linked with Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Gulf destinations and other international connections.

This is not the first time aviation authorities have issued a similar advisory for Islamabad airport. A previous notice in March also warned of a temporary impact on operations because of operational reasons, showing that such alerts are part of routine air safety and planning procedures when airport activity requires special coordination.

The latest notice comes at a time when travellers in Pakistan remain sensitive to aviation updates after recent regional tensions and disruptions had already affected air movement and passenger confidence. Even limited operational warnings can quickly become a major public concern because many families, business travellers and overseas Pakistanis depend on predictable flight schedules.
