Chagai Grenade Attack Injures Five Construction Workers

Five people were injured in a grenade attack on a house in Dalbandin area of Chagai district, Balochistan, in a late-night incident that has renewed concern over the safety of workers living away from their home districts. The attack was reported after unidentified individuals allegedly targeted the residence where construction workers were staying.

According to the reported details, the attackers hurled a hand grenade into the house, where it landed in the courtyard and exploded. The blast caused panic in the area and prompted an immediate response from local police and rescue personnel, who reached the site to assist the injured and secure the surroundings.

The injured were identified as Muzammil, Mushtaq, Ismail, Khan Muhammad and Ejaz Ahmed. They were shifted to Dalbandin Hospital for treatment, where doctors described their injuries as minor, though they remained under medical observation after the explosion.

Officials said the injured men were linked to construction work in Dalbandin. Two of them reportedly belonged to Multan, two to Sialkot and one to Narowal, showing that the victims were labourers or workers who had travelled from Punjab for employment in Balochistan.

The incident has raised questions about security arrangements around residential quarters used by workers in sensitive districts. Construction crews, labourers and contractors often live in shared rented spaces or temporary accommodation, which can become vulnerable if local threat assessments and security checks are weak.

Chagai district holds strategic and economic importance because of its location, mineral resources, border routes and development activity. Any attack targeting workers in the area can create fear among labour communities and slow local projects that depend on manpower from different parts of the country.

The grenade attack also comes amid wider security concerns in Balochistan. Earlier, a police constable was martyred in an attack on a checkpoint in Killi Harmezai area of Pishin district, where unidentified assailants reportedly opened fire before escaping, prompting a search operation by security forces.

For Pakistan, such incidents carry consequences beyond the immediate injuries. Attacks on ordinary workers can affect public confidence, discourage labour mobility, increase project costs and deepen the perception that civilian spaces linked to development activity need stronger protection.

Police are expected to investigate the motive behind the Dalbandin attack, identify those involved and determine whether the target was the house, the workers or the company associated with the construction project. Further action will likely depend on witness statements, forensic evidence and intelligence gathered from the surrounding area.

The immediate priority remains the recovery of the injured and the security of other workers in the locality. Local authorities are expected to review safety measures around labour residences and construction sites to prevent a similar attack from turning into a larger threat to workers and public order.
