The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet approved the immediate release of Rs. 19 billion to kick-start disbursements under the Prime Minister’s Ramzan Relief Package (PMRRP) 2026.
Officials told the committee that Rs. 19 billion had already been set aside in the current fiscal year’s budget for the Ramzan package, while the remaining funding requirement would be arranged as needed. The ECC reviewed a proposal seeking Rs. 25 billion in total financing for the program.
Alongside the funding decision, the ECC emphasized tighter oversight of operational spending. It granted in-principle approval for Rs. 1 billion in operational costs, conditional on submission of a detailed breakdown covering partner-bank charges and communication and outreach expenses.
The package is designed to provide targeted support to vulnerable households during Ramzan, with beneficiary identification to be carried out using National Socio-Economic Registry data to strengthen transparency and accountability.
