PESHAWAR: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is holding its meeting in Peshawar to determine the sighting of the Ramadan 2026 crescent, while zonal committees are simultaneously convened across the country to receive and assess testimonies.
According to the update, the central session was scheduled to take place in the Auqaf Hall under committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, with zonal committees meeting in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Islamabad. The central meeting timing was later shifted to start after 5:00pm.
The committee’s deliberations are being supported by relevant institutions, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and Suparco.
The report noted that Suparco’s forecast indicates a strong possibility of visibility on February 18, which would make February 19 the likely first fast, based on the expected age of the moon at sunset and the anticipated time gap between sunset and moonset in coastal areas.
