Punjab’s Communication and Works Department says preparations are underway to begin construction on three underpasses on Peshawar Road in Rawalpindi, with the underpass component estimated at Rs. 8 billion.
Officials stated that the broader Kutchery Chowk remodeling project—valued at Rs. 14 billion—has reached around 64% completion. According to the department, structural work on flyovers and underpasses at Kutchery Chowk has been completed, and teams have moved to earth-filling and related activities.
To prevent future service disruptions, authorities have instructed IESCO, PTCL and SNGPL to relocate utilities into a dedicated corridor. The department said meeting an April 30 deadline remains the target and confirmed that the Frontier Works Organisation is executing the project.
Relocation of electricity pylons along Peshawar Road from Qasim Market to Chairing Cross has begun, with officials expecting the shifting work to be completed by the end of February.
The department indicated that construction on the three underpasses is planned for mid-March to reduce congestion, noting heavy traffic volume already being diverted through alternate routes. Authorities also said civic agencies have been directed to relocate trees rather than cut them.
