The Punjab government has approved a new “Widow Support Card” initiative aimed at providing direct financial relief to widows across the province.

Under the scheme, eligible widows will receive PKR 100,000. The plan also adds child-related support: mothers with one child are set to get an additional PKR 25,000, while support for up to two children is to total PKR 50,000.

Officials said the Zakat Department will start the program before Ramazan, with rural Zakat committees submitting verified lists of beneficiaries to help ensure timely distribution.

The provincial government has placed the estimated cost of the initiative at around PKR 4 billion, describing it as part of broader efforts to support vulnerable women, particularly in areas where access to resources is limited.
