Bhains Colony flyover opens in Karachi to ease Malir traffic jams

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has inaugurated the Bhains Colony Flyover—also referred to as the Khalid Bin Waleed Flyover—describing it as a key step to improve traffic flow in Karachi.

Officials said the flyover is expected to reduce congestion in District Malir, particularly around Bhains Colony and the Mehran Highway, and to help lower accident risk near the railway crossing in the area. The project is also intended to improve connectivity for residents of Malir and Ibrahim Hyderi, the Export Processing Zone, and commuters traveling between National Highway N-5 and the Mehran Highway.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation completed the project under the Competitive and Livable City of Karachi initiative with support from the World Bank. Authorities said the scheme was approved in July 2025, construction began in September 2025, and the flyover was completed in about five months at a cost of Rs. 1.865 billion.

During the ceremony, the chief minister said uninterrupted movement across key routes would provide sustained relief for commuters and support commercial activity. He also issued timelines for additional city projects, including directing completion of a flyover at Azimpura within 100 days and stating that work on Shahrah-e-Bhutto and the Murghi Khana Bridge is progressing.
