Islamabad imambargah blast death toll hits 33 as funerals held

Hospital sources say the death toll from the Islamabad imambargah suicide blast has risen to 33 after another घायल person died from injuries.

According to the reported figures, a large number of victims were taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), including both injured people and fatalities. Officials said many patients were discharged after overnight treatment, while a number of wounded remain in critical condition, including those in intensive care.

Authorities say the attacker struck during Friday prayers at Imambargah Khadijah al-Kubra in the Tarlai area, opening fire before detonating at the entrance. Rescue teams shifted casualties to hospitals, while law enforcement—along with army troops and Rangers—secured the area and launched an investigation.

Investigators said they recovered identification details at the scene and are tracking those who facilitated and handled the attacker. Government officials said the injured are receiving medical care and that efforts are underway to trace the network behind the assault.

Funeral prayers for victims were held with federal ministers and large crowds in attendance. Separately, the Iranian ambassador conveyed condolences to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, while Azerbaijan’s foreign minister also expressed sympathy and solidarity with Pakistan during a call.
