Geespace, Paksat partner to expand satellite connectivity in Pakistan

Chinese commercial space company Geespace, a unit linked to Geely Holding, signed a cooperation agreement with Pakistan’s satellite communications operator Paksat International to support satellite-based connectivity services in Pakistan and nearby markets.

The two sides said the collaboration would focus on policy coordination, technical cooperation and market development around Geespace’s low-Earth-orbit satellite IoT constellation. Under the agreement, Paksat is expected to help with policy engagement, spectrum coordination and compliance steps required for commercial operations, while both parties explore network access, service integration and marketing.

Geespace’s chief executive Wang Yang said the company aims to provide highly reliable satellite communications suited to needs such as coverage shortfalls in difficult terrain, industrial digitisation and cross-regional communications.

The report noted that Pakistan’s push to expand digital infrastructure has faced challenges where mountainous geography and sparse populations make traditional network rollouts costly and slow. Satellite links can also serve as backup connectivity when ground networks are disrupted.

Paksat, established in 2004, provides commercial satellite capacity and services for broadcasters, telecom operators, internet and data providers and government clients, according to its corporate profile. Geespace is developing the Geesatcom low-Earth-orbit IoT constellation and has carried out multiple launches since 2022, with dozens of satellites currently in orbit and commercial testing conducted across numerous countries.
