The IMF Executive Board approved a combined $1.2 billion disbursement for Pakistan after completing the second review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the first review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

The allocation comprises about $1 billion under the EFF and $200 million via the RSF, taking total disbursements under both arrangements to roughly $3.3 billion. The lender noted progress on stabilisation, citing a primary surplus equal to 1.3% of GDP and a build-up of gross reserves to $14.5 billion by end-FY25, with further increases projected.

Islamabad reached a staff-level agreement with the Fund in October covering the ongoing programmes. The IMF said policy implementation has been strong despite external headwinds and flood-related pressures, and reiterated its backing for the reform agenda.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the decision, praising the economic team and acknowledging support from the military leadership in pushing reforms. He said the reforms have moved Pakistan from crisis toward stability and vowed continued efforts to reduce debt and entrench growth.
