KARACHI: The Sindh government suspended multiple officials after a three-year-old boy died falling into an open manhole in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Those removed include senior Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation officers, alongside local administration officials.
The action followed a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah amid widespread public outrage. Police also formed a three-member inquiry team to determine responsibility and record statements from the bereaved family.
A Karachi BRT project statement distanced the scheme from the incident, saying no construction was underway near the site and maintenance of the sewerage system does not fall under its purview. A KMC report, however, cited nearby works and local factors as contributors to the tragedy.
