ISLAMABAD: The federal government reinstated the import and export of gold, jewellery and precious metals, rescinding a May suspension and restoring the 2013 regulatory framework through a new commerce ministry notification issued after cabinet approval.
Officials said the move revives the Entrustment Scheme’s export entitlement period and introduces clarifications to streamline customs processes and documentation, including recognition of apostilled documents where applicable. The updated rules also explicitly allow digital passbooks for traders.
Authorities indicated the step follows months without fresh smuggling complaints and is intended to bring transparency while facilitating legitimate trade in the sector.
