Pakistan gets first US crude cargo under new trade pact

Pakistan has taken delivery of its first-ever shipment of United States crude oil, a cargo of one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate discharged at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring near Hub, Balochistan. The vessel—identified as MT Pegasus—marks the largest crude carrier to berth for Pakistan, according to the company. The delivery arrives nearly three months after Islamabad and Washington announced a trade agreement intended to deepen economic ties. Cnergyico said a second US cargo is due in mid-November, with a third consignment planned in 2026. Officials say the broader pact aims to lower tariffs on Pakistani exports and expand cooperation in energy, minerals, information technology and other sectors. The arrangement was also highlighted by US President Donald Trump earlier this year on social media, where he described it as a step toward collaboration on Pakistan’s oil resources. Industry watchers view the cargo as symbolically important for energy security and logistics, setting a record for port handling while potentially diversifying Pakistan’s crude slate.
