The Pakistan Stock Exchange extended losses on Tuesday as investors booked profits after a sustained rally and the State Bank left its policy rate unchanged. The KSE-100 Index closed at 160,101.02 points, down 2,062.79 points from the previous session’s 162,163.81.

Trading swung widely over the day. The benchmark hit an intraday high of 163,380.67 points—up 1,216.86—before sliding to a session low of 159,805.34 points, a decline of 2,358.47. Market participants attributed the reversal to valuation concerns and lingering worries over inflation and the current account outlook.

Analyst Ahfaz Mustafa said the market was undergoing a healthy correction following a sharp run-up, with investors looking for a fresh catalyst as the earnings season winds down. Sentiment was also tempered by official projections showing inflation stabilising in the mid-single digits and by multilateral assessments indicating Pakistan’s growth will remain constrained without continued reforms.
