Two Pakistan bus crashes kill 13, injure dozens

At least 13 people, including women and children, were killed and dozens were injured in two separate bus accidents in Balochistan and Karachi, authorities said. Police reported that a Karachi-bound coach from Panjgur collided with an oncoming truck near Zero Point in Lasbela’s Othal area, killing six and injuring 17. In a second incident near Hub-Winder on the outskirts of Karachi, seven more travelers died and 16 were hurt, according to first responders from the Edhi rescue service. Senior Superintendent of Police Lasbela Atif Amir said the Lasbela crash brought traffic on the national highway to a standstill as rescue teams worked to clear debris and shift the injured to hospitals. Officials later confirmed the road was reopened after completion of rescue activities. The injured from the Hub-Winder crash, including several women and children, were transported to the Civil Hospital Trauma Centre in Karachi for treatment. Authorities highlighted Pakistan’s persistently high rate of fatal road accidents, often linked to speeding, vehicle maintenance problems and poor road conditions, especially on intercity routes. The twin crashes renewed calls for stricter enforcement of safety standards and improved emergency response on busy corridors connecting Balochistan and Sindh.
