Security forces have killed an alleged militant commander during an intelligence-based operation in Qila Saifullah district of Balochistan, according to an official report citing security sources. The operation was conducted as part of the continuing counterterrorism campaign in the province.

The deceased was identified as Adil Shah, also known as Darvesh. Authorities described him as a commander associated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, which the state officially refers to as Fitna-al-Khawarij.

Security sources alleged that Shah had been connected with the militant network since December 2020 and had managed its financial affairs since 2024. They also accused him of involvement in attacks targeting security personnel and kidnapping for ransom beginning in 2022.

The official account further alleged that Shah helped arrange permanent accommodation for foreign militants in the Zhob, Sherani and Shaban areas of Balochistan. Nineteen first information reports had reportedly been registered against him, while authorities had announced a bounty of Rs2.5 million for information leading to his capture.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti welcomed the outcome and said the operation demonstrated the readiness and professional capability of the security forces. Authorities pledged that counterterrorism operations in the province would continue against militant networks and their facilitators.

The operation forms part of a broader sequence of security actions across Balochistan. Earlier in October, personnel conducted intelligence-based operations in Washuk, Barkhan, Quetta, Nushki and Khuzdar, while an army major was killed during separate operations on October 19.

The latest action comes amid a marked increase in militant violence. Security-monitoring data recorded 225 attacks across Pakistan during September, compared with 199 in August, representing an increase of 13.1 per cent and the highest monthly figure reported in 12 years.

The same assessment recorded 259 terrorism-related deaths and 242 injuries during September. Balochistan accounted for 131 attacks, or 58.2pc of the nationwide total, underscoring the scale of the security challenge facing residents, law-enforcement personnel and infrastructure projects in the province.

Detailed circumstances of the Qila Saifullah operation, including its precise location, duration and whether additional suspects were present, were not publicly disclosed. Further official information will be required to establish the full operational sequence and determine whether the action disrupted the wider financing and support network attributed to the slain commander.
