Petrol Falls to Rs379.31 as Pakistan Raises Diesel Price
“Pakistan has reduced petrol by Rs2.71 to Rs379.31 per litre while raising high-speed diesel by 31 paisa to Rs390.11.”
Key points
- Pakistan has reduced petrol by Rs2.71 to Rs379.31 per litre while raising high-speed diesel by 31 paisa to Rs390.11.
- The revised ex-depot prices take effect on October 22 and reflect changes in international benchmarks, premiums and related costs.
The federal government announced a mixed adjustment in petroleum prices on Wednesday, reducing petrol by Rs2.71 per litre while marginally increasing high-speed diesel. The revised ex-depot rates will take effect across Pakistan on October 22, 2026.
Following the latest revision, petrol will cost Rs379.31 per litre, down from Rs382.02. High-speed diesel has been increased by 31 paisa per litre, taking its new price to Rs390.11 from the previous Rs389.80.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority calculated the revised ex-depot prices under the petroleum-pricing mechanism approved by the federal government. The Petroleum Division subsequently announced the new rates through an official statement.
Officials attributed the adjustment to developments in international energy markets. The calculation incorporated movements in Platts benchmark quotations as well as changes in premiums and incidental costs associated with importing and supplying petroleum products.
The decision follows several fuel-price changes during the same week. On Tuesday, petrol was raised by 88 paisa to Rs382.02 per litre, while high-speed diesel increased by 53 paisa to Rs389.80. Those revisions came shortly after reductions announced on Monday.
Under Monday’s adjustment, petrol had fallen by Rs5.16 to Rs381.14 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs7.69 to Rs389.27. Compared with those Monday rates, the latest price leaves petrol Rs1.83 cheaper while diesel is 84 paisa more expensive, illustrating the different market pressures affecting the two products.
The petrol reduction offers limited relief to motorists already facing elevated transport costs. The diesel increase is considerably smaller, but the fuel plays an important role in freight movement, public transport, agriculture and commercial activity, meaning even modest adjustments can affect operating expenses across the economy.
The succession of revisions demonstrates how quickly movements in international benchmarks, supplier premiums and related costs can be transmitted to domestic fuel prices. Consumers, transport operators and businesses will need to apply the updated rates from October 22 while awaiting the next official review of market conditions.
