CHAKWAL: The post-mortem report of nine-year-old Hania Ahmed, an Australian national killed during a Crime Control Department shooting in Chakwal, has confirmed that the child suffered multiple firearm injuries, intensifying public anger over a case already seen as a grave law-enforcement failure.

Hania was travelling with her family when their vehicle came under fire after CCD personnel allegedly mistook it for a robbers’ car during a robbery incident. Her father Adeel Ahmed and brother Aafan Ahmed were critically injured, while her mother, Dr Sidra Khan, survived the incident without physical injury.

According to details reported from the autopsy, Hania sustained five bullet hits that caused multiple entry and exit wounds. The examination was conducted at the District Headquarters Hospital in Chakwal, where doctors recorded injuries to several parts of the child’s body and concluded that the death was caused by gunshot trauma.

The tragedy has drawn intense concern because it involved a child from an overseas Pakistani family and a police-style operation that appears to have gone badly wrong. The family was not accused of wrongdoing, yet the firing left one child dead and two other family members fighting for survival.

Hania’s father, Adeel Ahmed, has alleged that bullets were fired from AK-47-style weapons and claimed that more than one official opened fire on the vehicle. In an audio message shared with the newspaper, he said the family wanted accountability rather than financial assistance, adding that those responsible must face punishment so that no other family suffers the same fate.

The father also questioned the conduct of CCD personnel during the incident, arguing that officers should have handled the robbery situation with greater restraint and professionalism. He alleged that the robbers had not initiated heavy firing and that the law-enforcement response turned a robbery into a fatal tragedy.

CCD Chief Sohail Zaffar Chatha has described the incident as deeply shocking and promised a transparent inquiry. He visited the grieving family and Hania’s grave, saying the department would not shield its own officials if wrongdoing was established.

According to the CCD chief’s account, officials had responded to a robbery and misjudged the situation during an exchange of fire. He acknowledged that excessive force had been used because of that misjudgement, adding that Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, dealing with murder, had been added to the case.

The case has also gained attention beyond Pakistan because of Hania’s Australian nationality. Officials from the Australian Consulate reportedly contacted the family and assured support, while the incident has raised questions about how overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals are protected during police operations inside the country.

For Pakistan, the Chakwal shooting has become more than an isolated criminal investigation. It has highlighted deeper concerns over police training, use of automatic weapons, accountability during raids and the risks ordinary citizens face when law-enforcement operations are carried out without sufficient control.

The next stage will depend on whether the investigation proceeds independently and whether the evidence, including the autopsy report, witness accounts and ballistic findings, is placed before the court without pressure. Public confidence will rest on visible accountability, because the killing of a nine-year-old child has left a question that authorities can no longer answer with routine assurances alone.
