North Waziristan Operation Leaves 27 Militants Dead

Pakistani security forces have killed 27 militants during a series of intelligence-based operations in the Miran Shah area of North Waziristan, according to the military’s media wing. The operations were conducted over the past 72 hours in one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s most sensitive border districts, where militant networks have remained a persistent security challenge.

The Inter-Services Public Relations said troops acted on intelligence about militant hideouts and engaged suspects in multiple locations. Officials said the operations involved intense exchanges of fire, after which 27 militants linked to the group officially described as Fitna al-Khawarij were killed.

Security personnel also recovered a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the militants. Authorities said the recovered material pointed to planned or ongoing militant activity in the area, strengthening the military’s claim that the hideouts were being used for violence against civilians and security targets.

The ISPR said those killed were involved in terrorist incidents and targeted killings, including the murder of Malik Saifullah Dawar in Miran Shah. The military described the operation as a direct response to such attacks, saying the perpetrators behind the killing had been brought to justice.

North Waziristan has long remained central to Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy because of its terrain, proximity to the Afghan border and history of militant movement. Even after major military campaigns in the region, security forces have continued targeted operations to prevent regrouping and disrupt local support networks.

The latest action comes amid renewed concern over militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police, soldiers, tribal elders and civilians have repeatedly been targeted. Intelligence-based operations have become one of the state’s main tools to pursue militants while limiting wider disruption for local communities.
