Pakistan's federal government has raised the price of kerosene oil under a new notification issued through the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority. The revision increases kerosene by Rs. 39.20 per litre, taking the new retail rate to Rs. 358.01 per litre from the earlier Rs. 318.81.
The move comes alongside a separate decision to keep petrol and diesel prices unchanged for the current review period. According to the report, the government chose to absorb pressure from higher international oil prices on the two major fuels while allowing a steep adjustment in kerosene.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was quoted as saying the administration wanted to shield ordinary consumers from a broader petroleum price shock. For now, petrol remains at Rs. 321.17 per litre and diesel at Rs. 335.86 per litre until the next pricing review.
