Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the province’s e-taxi initiative under the government’s Vision 2030 framework, positioning it as a step toward lower-emission urban mobility and new income opportunities for drivers.
Officials said the first phase includes 1,100 electric taxis offered at subsidized rates, beginning with a pilot rollout in Lahore and expansion to other districts in the weeks ahead.
At the launch, the chief minister said the programme is meant to build a broader e-mobility ecosystem by reducing fuel costs, cutting emissions, and improving transport reliability.
A key element of the scheme is an inclusion quota, with 30% of the vehicles reserved for women. The provincial government is also offering financial support, including a subsidy of up to Rs. 4 billion and coverage of a portion of the down payment—higher support for women applicants.
The administration said the initial fleet would be visible on Lahore’s roads within days, and linked the project to other green transport plans, including electric and hybrid bus services planned across the province.
