KARACHI: The government has announced the Zakat Nisab for Ramadan 2026, setting the threshold at Rs503,529, according to a notification referenced in Geo News reporting.
The notification stated that Zakat will not be deducted at source from accounts holding balances below the announced Nisab. It also identified the first day of Ramadan as the likely “Deduction Date” for Zakat deductions from savings accounts, profit-and-loss sharing accounts and similar deposits that meet or exceed the threshold.
The deduction date is expected to fall around February 19 or February 20, subject to the official moon sighting decision.
Separately, Suparco’s astronomical assessment indicated the Ramadan crescent is likely to be visible on February 18, making February 19 the expected first day of fasting. Suparco also noted the new moon is to be born on February 17 at 5:01pm (Pakistan time).
The central moon sighting committee is scheduled to meet in Peshawar under its chair to observe the crescent, while zonal committees are to convene in Islamabad and provincial capitals. The notification further directed Zakat collecting agencies to follow procedures and deposit deducted amounts into the designated central account maintained with the State Bank of Pakistan.
