Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Policing command has taken over the investigation into an assault on Shahzad Akbar, a former adviser to Pakistan’s prime minister, after authorities assessed the incident as targeted and sensitive.
According to information obtained by Geo News, the case was initially handled locally in Cambridge but has since been transferred to the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terror unit. Investigators were said to have passed along an evidence file that includes CCTV material, photographs, forensic work and the victim’s statement.
Counter Terrorism Policing London confirmed it is investigating an assault on a man in his 50s in the Cambridge area on 24 December. Police said they are keeping an open mind on motivation, do not believe there is a broader public threat linked to the incident, and reported that no arrests have been made so far.
