Pakistan protests to Kabul after Afghan-based attack kills 4 troops

Pakistan’s Foreign Office lodged a formal demarche with the Afghan Taliban authorities, condemning a terrorist strike in North Waziristan that left four Pakistani soldiers dead. The Afghan deputy head of mission was summoned in Islamabad as Pakistan accused Kabul of allowing Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants to operate from its territory in breach of assurances and international obligations.

In its statement, the FO demanded a thorough investigation, verifiable action against the perpetrators and facilitators, and concrete steps to stop the use of Afghan soil for terrorism. It also warned that Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and citizens.

Separately, the military’s media wing said the assault targeted a security forces camp in Boya. Troops repelled an attempted breach, during which the attackers detonated a vehicle-borne explosive at the outer wall, damaging nearby civilian structures including a mosque and injuring at least 15 residents.

The army identified the fallen personnel as Havildar Muhammad Waqas (42), Naik Khanwaiz (38), Sepoy Sufyan Haider (25) and Sepoy Riffat (32). Security forces killed all four assailants and asserted the attack was planned from Afghanistan.

Contextualising the flare-up, officials reiterated Pakistan’s repeated calls for Kabul to curb cross-border terrorism.
