Pakistan warned the Taliban administration it will take all necessary defensive measures to protect its people if Kabul does not implement concrete, verifiable action against terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil. Addressing the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s permanent representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said Afghanistan has again become a sanctuary for militants, with cross-border attacks undermining regional security.
He identified groups including Daesh-K, Al-Qaeda, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, and BLA as benefiting from safe havens and collaboration in training, illicit weapons trade and coordinated attacks. The envoy said nearly 1,200 Pakistanis have been killed this year in violence linked to networks based in Afghanistan, while over 214 Afghan militants have been neutralised in Pakistan since 2022.
Pakistan urged UN bodies, including UNAMA, to give an objective assessment of border security and reiterated that dialogue efforts in Doha and Istanbul had not produced the necessary results. Islamabad also renewed calls for the phased, dignified repatriation of Afghan refugees.
