The State Bank of Pakistan said it has received $1.2 billion from the International Monetary Fund under the Extended Fund Facility and the climate-focused Resilience and Sustainability Facility. The inflow follows the Fund’s Executive Board meeting on December 8 that completed the programme’s second review under the EFF and first review under the RSF.
The central bank noted the amount will be reflected in the country’s foreign exchange reserves for the week ending December 12, 2025. It also said an additional $200 million has been released under climate-related support.
In a statement after the board discussion, IMF management credited Pakistan’s reform efforts with preserving macroeconomic stability amid shocks, moderating external and fiscal imbalances and anchoring inflation expectations. It urged sustained tight monetary policy, deeper interbank FX market development and broad-based tax reforms to secure fiscal sustainability and support climate resilience and social protection.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the disbursement, describing it as recognition of the government’s reform implementation and the finance team’s work.
