Pakistan and Indonesia signed a raft of memoranda of understanding spanning trade, health, culture, education and vocational training during President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Islamabad. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said both sides would work to balance a roughly $4.5bn trade relationship by boosting exports of Pakistani agricultural products and IT services.
The prime minister announced plans to send doctors, dentists and other specialists to Indonesia to address workforce needs in its health system. Islamabad and Jakarta also discussed reviewing the Indonesia–Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement to expand commerce and tackle imbalances.
Following the ceremony, the Indonesian president met Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. According to the military’s media wing, both sides reaffirmed cooperation on regional security and defence, including training and counterterrorism collaboration.
Officials described the visit as a milestone in 75 years of bilateral ties, with both governments pledging to translate the new frameworks into concrete sectoral projects.
