Iran’s Larijani pushes tighter Pakistan–Iran security framework

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council secretary Dr Ali Larijani called for a stronger Islamabad–Tehran security mechanism to counter cross-border terrorism during a press conference in Islamabad. He praised Pakistan’s efforts against militancy and said deeper military coordination would make operations more effective.

Larijani, who arrived on a two-day visit, met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister–Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, with both sides affirming plans to expand cooperation on regional and global issues. He also held talks at General Headquarters with Field Marshal Asim Munir, acknowledging Pakistan’s role in regional stability.

He reiterated that Iran has met its obligations on the Iran–Pakistan gas pipeline up to the border and voiced hope for swift progress on the project. On Gaza, Larijani cautioned that US-backed peace proposals risk creating “temporary solutions” that spawn new problems, adding that any Pakistani participation in international deployments would be Islamabad’s sovereign decision.
