Taylor Swift is confronting a fresh allegation of copyright infringement from Florida-based self-published poet Kimberly Marasco, who has filed a second amended complaint claiming the singer’s lyrics and accompanying text mirror her earlier works. The filing, dated October 14, alleges that 11 tracks from Swift’s recent project and introductory text from her earlier “The Tortured Poets Department” echo Marasco’s writings from 2017 to 2019.
Examples cited in the complaint include a “rigged-race” metaphor in the song “The Man,” as well as imagery likened to an asylum and references to journalist Nellie Bly in “Fortnight.” The poet also argues that lyrical comparisons to the sky in “Illicit Affairs” are uniquely personal, drawn from her experiences as a flight attendant. A prior complaint by Marasco was dismissed on September 29, but the latest filing revives her claims.
The accusation surfaced in entertainment media reports on October 22. Swift and her representatives have not publicly responded in this report, and the case has not yet been adjudicated.
