Rain Lashes Lahore, Floods Roads and Disrupts Power Supply

LAHORE: Light to moderate rainfall swept across several parts of Lahore, bringing relief from humid conditions while also causing water accumulation, traffic disruption and electricity outages in multiple localities.

The showers affected a wide range of areas across the provincial capital, including Abbott Road, Laxmi Chowk, Garhi Shahu, Naulakha Bazaar, Tajpura, Gujjarpura, Chungi Amar Sidhu, Ferozepur Road and Kahna. Some neighbourhoods experienced heavier spells as the weather system moved across the city.

Heavy rain was also reported around Band Road, Gulshan Ravi and Samanabad, while showers reached Allama Iqbal Town, Mall Road and Jail Road. Dark clouds and strong, cooler winds accompanied the rainfall, producing a noticeable drop in temperature after humid conditions earlier in the day.

The rain quickly created problems for motorists as water accumulated in low-lying areas and on sections of major roads. Traffic slowed at several locations, with long queues of vehicles forming as drivers attempted to navigate waterlogged stretches and reduced visibility during the showers.

Electricity supply was also disrupted in parts of the city after several feeders tripped during the rainfall. Residents in affected neighbourhoods experienced outages as the weather exposed continuing vulnerabilities in the urban power distribution network during periods of rain and strong winds.

The rainfall nevertheless provided significant weather relief for residents after persistent humidity. Cooler gusts and the resulting decline in temperature changed conditions across much of Lahore, with the showers ranging from light rain in some neighbourhoods to heavier downpours elsewhere.

Urban flooding remains a recurring concern in Lahore during significant rain spells because drainage systems can struggle to clear water rapidly from roads and low-lying neighbourhoods. Even relatively short periods of intense rainfall can affect traffic movement, electricity infrastructure and routine commercial activity across densely populated parts of the city.

Authorities and utility teams are expected to monitor drainage and electricity conditions as the weather develops. Residents travelling through affected areas may continue to face water accumulation and traffic delays until roads drain fully and disrupted electricity feeders are restored.
