Pakistan Hit Record-Low 55 in Seven-Wicket Asia Cup Loss to India

Pakistan suffered a heavy seven-wicket defeat against arch-rivals India in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 on Saturday after collapsing to 55 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, their lowest total in women’s T20 international cricket. The result left Pakistan with one victory and one defeat from their opening two Group A matches.

Captain Fatima Sana’s side chose to bat first but was unable to build on a reasonable opening phase. Pakistan reached 27 for one before India’s bowlers took control and triggered a dramatic collapse. The remaining nine wickets produced only 28 runs as Pakistan were dismissed in 18.1 overs.

Shawaal Zulfiqar was Pakistan’s leading scorer with 14 from 14 deliveries, while wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali made 13 from 15 balls. Tuba Hassan contributed nine runs, but the middle and lower order could not establish the partnerships needed to produce a competitive total against a disciplined Indian attack.

India’s Shree Charani was one of the main architects of the collapse, taking three wickets while conceding seven runs. Prema Rawat also claimed three wickets for nine runs. Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma added a wicket each as India repeatedly denied Pakistan opportunities to recover after the initial breakthroughs.

With a target of only 56, Pakistan needed early wickets and sustained pressure to have any realistic chance of turning the match around. The Pakistani bowlers did remove three Indian batters, but the small target gave India considerable room to absorb those setbacks and remain in command of the chase.

India ultimately completed the pursuit with seven wickets in hand. Harmanpreet Kaur led India’s scoring with 18, while Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma contributed 12 runs each. The victory kept India unbeaten in the competition after earlier wins against Thailand and Hong Kong.

For Pakistan, the result represented a sharp reversal after beginning the tournament with a 35-run victory over Thailand. The record-low total against India highlighted the batting problems the team must address quickly, particularly its vulnerability once wickets begin to fall in clusters. Against stronger bowling attacks, rebuilding partnerships after an early setback will be crucial if Pakistan are to challenge deep into the tournament.

Pakistan’s next Group A fixture is against Hong Kong on September 7. That match now takes on added importance as the Green Shirts seek to recover from the India defeat and strengthen their tournament position. A significantly improved batting performance will be central to their chances of returning to winning form and maintaining momentum in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
