Mardan Gurdwara Caretaker and Wife Killed in Shooting

MARDAN: A Sikh man serving as caretaker of a local Gurdwara and his wife were killed in a shooting inside the place of worship in Babu Mohallah of Khwaja Ganj Bazaar, police officials said, in an incident that has triggered concern over security and community safety in the city.

According to initial information shared by police and rescue officials, an unidentified assailant opened fire inside the Gurdwara on Wednesday. The victims, believed to be responsible for looking after the religious site, died after the attack, while emergency teams and police personnel reached the area shortly after the firing was reported.

The incident took place in a busy locality of Mardan, making the attack especially alarming for residents and members of the minority community. Investigators are examining whether the couple was targeted because of their role at the Gurdwara, a personal dispute, or another motive that has not yet been established.

Police officials said a full investigation had been launched and evidence was collected from the crime scene. Senior officers, including Mardan District Police Officer Masood Ahmad, SSP Investigations Maria Mustafa, the ASP City and the SHO of Hoti police station, visited the site as part of the initial response.
