Jhang Student Dies After Alleged Gang Rape, Three Arrested

An 18-year-old student died at District Headquarters Hospital in Jhang on Tuesday after she was brought in critical condition following her disappearance under suspicious circumstances. Police said the case is being investigated as a possible gang rape, while three suspects have been arrested during the initial phase of the probe.

According to police sources, the Grade 11 student had gone missing four days earlier, after which her family lodged a missing persons report at Satellite Town police station. The case took a serious turn when unidentified men allegedly brought her unconscious to a private hospital and left before authorities could question them.

Due to her deteriorating condition, the student was shifted from the private facility to DHQ Hospital Jhang, where doctors continued treatment but could not save her life. Investigators later obtained CCTV footage from the private hospital, which reportedly showed the circumstances in which she was brought to the premises.

Police said the footage and other material gathered so far helped identify and arrest three suspects, named as Haseeb, Amish and Hassan. Officials also seized the vehicle allegedly used in the incident, while a fourth suspect, identified as Khalil, remains at large and is being searched for by police teams.

Investigators have stressed that the case has not reached its final conclusion and that the allegation of gang rape will be determined through medical, forensic and other investigative reports. Police officials said the available circumstances raise serious suspicion, but the final legal position will depend on evidence collected through proper procedure.

The victim’s father has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure justice, reflecting the family’s demand for a transparent and swift investigation. The appeal has added public pressure on provincial authorities to closely monitor the case and prevent any delay or compromise in the inquiry.

The incident has again highlighted concerns over women’s safety, missing persons complaints and emergency response systems in smaller urban centres. Cases involving young students often trigger wider public anxiety because they raise questions about community security, police tracking mechanisms and the handling of vulnerable victims once they are located.

For Pakistan, the Jhang case carries social and legal significance beyond one district. It underlines the need for timely forensic work, stronger protection for complainants’ families and more reliable coordination between hospitals and law enforcement when a victim is brought in under suspicious conditions.

The next stage of the case will depend on the medical report, forensic findings, statements of the arrested suspects and efforts to capture the remaining suspect. Authorities are expected to face growing calls for a charge sheet based on credible evidence, court-supervised progress and accountability for anyone found responsible.
