Imran Family and PTI Leaders Denied Adiala Jail Meeting Again

Imran Khan’s sisters and several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders were once again unable to meet the incarcerated former prime minister at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, keeping the issue of access to the PTI founder at the centre of Pakistan’s political debate. The latest denial came despite a court-recognised schedule for meetings with family members, lawyers and political associates.

The development took place outside Adiala Jail, where Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were present along with lawyers and PTI figures who had arrived for the expected meeting. The group included legal representatives and party leaders who have repeatedly complained that access to the former premier has remained restricted even on days when meetings are supposed to take place.

The Islamabad High Court has permitted Imran Khan to hold meetings twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with family members, lawyers and other associates. PTI representatives argue that repeated denial of such meetings weakens the legal and political rights of the former premier and adds to uncertainty around his detention conditions.

Speaking to reporters outside the jail, Aleema Khan linked the issue to the broader political crisis facing the country. She claimed that Pakistan had been passing through instability during the years in which Imran Khan has remained behind bars, and argued that his release was necessary for political stability.

Aleema also referred to the recent Gilgit-Baltistan elections, alleging that the public mood in the region had not been reflected properly in mainstream media. She said social media had made it difficult to hide political developments and claimed that the people of GB had shown support for PTI despite pressure and post-election tensions.

The denied meeting also comes at a politically sensitive moment, with the federal budget expected to be presented on June 12. Aleema said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was expected to be at Parliament House on budget day, signalling that PTI’s political strategy may shift toward parliamentary pressure while the Adiala access issue continues.

This is not the first time Imran Khan’s family has complained about being stopped from meeting him. In recent weeks, Aleema has repeatedly stated that the family would continue appearing outside Adiala Jail and pressing for access, describing such visits as a way to keep attention focused on the former prime minister’s legal and political position.

The matter carries wider significance because Imran Khan remains one of the most influential political figures in Pakistan despite imprisonment. Restrictions on meetings with him have become a recurring point of confrontation between PTI, prison authorities and the government, deepening mistrust at a time when political polarisation is already high.

For Pakistan, the continuing standoff raises questions about court orders, prisoner access, political dialogue and the treatment of opposition leadership. The next phase will depend on whether authorities allow scheduled meetings in the coming days or whether PTI escalates the issue through courts, parliament and public mobilisation.
