Six Terrorists Killed in Panjgur Security Operation

Security forces killed six terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Inter-Services Public Relations. The operation was reported as part of Pakistan’s continuing counterterrorism campaign in the province, where security agencies have intensified actions after a series of deadly attacks.

The military’s media wing said the operation was carried out on the night between June 3 and June 4 after intelligence indicated the presence of militants linked to Fitna al Hindustan. Security personnel moved against multiple suspected locations in Panjgur and engaged the armed men during the raid.

According to the ISPR account, the exchange of fire was intense and ended with six militants being killed. The statement said the slain men were involved in several terrorist activities in the area, making the Panjgur action a significant development for local security operations.

Weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and a vehicle were recovered during the operation, the military said. Officials added that clearance and sanitisation efforts were continuing in the area to ensure that no remaining threat was left behind after the encounter.

President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces for carrying out the operation and said the action represented an important step toward restoring peace. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the forces, reiterating that the state remained committed to eliminating terrorism from Pakistan.

The operation comes at a sensitive time for Balochistan, where security forces have been conducting repeated intelligence-led actions against armed groups accused of targeting civilians, security personnel and public infrastructure. Panjgur, like several other districts in the province, has remained a focus of surveillance because of militant movement and cross-border networks.

Earlier this week, security forces also reported killing 17 terrorists in separate intelligence-based operations across Balochistan, including in Mastung, Nushki, Khuzdar and Kech. Those actions followed a suicide attack on a train in Quetta, which had sharpened national concern over militant violence and the protection of transport routes.

The latest Panjgur operation is likely to reinforce the government’s emphasis on intelligence-based counterterrorism rather than broad, indiscriminate action. It also signals that security agencies are attempting to disrupt militant hideouts, recover explosives and prevent attacks before they reach urban centres or strategic routes.

For Pakistan, the impact of such operations goes beyond immediate battlefield gains. Sustained militant activity in Balochistan affects public confidence, investment prospects, transport safety and the ability of the province to benefit from development projects.

Security officials are expected to continue follow-up searches in Panjgur and surrounding areas. The next phase will focus on identifying facilitators, tracing recovered weapons and preventing regrouping by militant networks that remain active in parts of Balochistan.
