KP Aide Questions Secrecy Over Imran Khan’s Hospital Move

A senior aide to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister has raised fresh questions over the medical handling of PTI founder Imran Khan, criticising what he described as a secretive late-night hospital transfer from Adiala Jail.

Special Assistant on Information and Public Relations Shafi Jan made the remarks at a press conference, where he appeared with provincial cabinet members Riaz Khan and Taj Muhammad Tarand. The issue quickly gained political attention because it concerns the health, detention conditions and legal rights of Pakistan’s former prime minister.

According to Jan, Imran Khan was moved from jail to hospital during late hours and brought back within a short period. He argued that the circumstances of the transfer were unclear and had created concern among PTI supporters, party leaders and the former premier’s family.

Jan alleged that neither Imran Khan’s family nor his personal doctors were properly informed or allowed to independently examine him. He said access to trusted medical supervision was not a political favour but a constitutional, legal and humanitarian right that should be available to every prisoner.

The KP government aide also linked the matter to Bushra Bibi’s medical care, saying she had also been taken to hospital late at night for an eye-related procedure and then returned to jail within hours. He argued that such treatment normally requires follow-up observation and questioned why the authorities were acting with unusual urgency.

During the press conference, Jan accused the federal and Punjab governments of using Imran Khan’s health as a political pressure point. He claimed the handling of medical transfers and access restrictions had deepened suspicion that important information about the former prime minister’s condition was being kept from his family and party.

The PTI leader also drew a comparison with past political cases, saying Maryam Nawaz had previously received relief on medical grounds to care for Nawaz Sharif. He argued that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were not being treated with the same standard of medical access, family contact and procedural fairness.

The controversy comes at a time when PTI has repeatedly demanded independent medical access for its jailed founder. The party has also pressed for treatment at a facility and under doctors acceptable to Imran Khan’s family, while government authorities have generally maintained that prison and medical procedures are being followed.

For Pakistan’s political climate, the issue is sensitive because Imran Khan remains one of the country’s most influential political figures despite imprisonment. Any uncertainty over his health can trigger public concern, sharpen confrontation between PTI and the government, and add pressure on institutions responsible for prisoner welfare.

The next stage will depend on whether authorities allow independent medical examination and provide clearer details about the hospital transfer. If PTI’s concerns are not addressed, the dispute is likely to remain a major political flashpoint and may fuel further demands for judicial or parliamentary scrutiny.
