Two Suspected Mpox Cases Reported In Multan Hospital

Two fresh suspected mpox cases have been reported at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, prompting health authorities to place both patients under observation in the facility’s isolation ward. The development was reported on Tuesday, adding to public health concerns in southern Punjab as confirmed mpox patients are already receiving treatment at the same hospital.

According to hospital administration, the two suspected patients include a 40-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman who were admitted after showing symptoms associated with mpox. Doctors moved them to isolation as a precautionary measure while laboratory testing is carried out to determine whether they are infected.

Officials said the test reports of both patients are still awaited, meaning the cases have not yet been formally confirmed. Health teams are monitoring their condition and following infection-control procedures to reduce any risk of exposure to other patients, attendants or medical staff inside the hospital.

The hospital administration said the two patients belong to Multan and Muzaffargarh districts. The male patient had recently returned to Muzaffargarh from Dubai, a detail that may be relevant for health investigators as travel history is often reviewed in suspected infectious disease cases.

The latest suspected cases are significant because Nishtar Hospital is already treating five confirmed mpox patients. The presence of additional suspected infections at the same facility increases the importance of strict isolation, timely testing, contact tracing and transparent public updates to prevent unnecessary panic.

Mpox is a viral disease that can spread through close physical contact, contaminated materials and exposure to infected lesions.
